Meet Me At The Wanda

The Copa del Rey final will be played in the Spanish captial at the Wanda Metropolitano. The Wanda is home of Atlético de Madrid and seems like the best place to host the final, easy to get to for both Barça and Sevilla fans alike. Gabriel is hoping to attend the match as long as the tickets are not outrageous. The date for the final is Saturday, April 21st.

Cue The Music…Champions League Preview

The first leg of the Round of 16 is upon us and Barcelona will travel to London to play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Oh baby…we heart Champions League so much, especially when we are playing Chelsea. Chelsea are not playing that well in their league but Champions League is a different animal. Chelsea is revolving door of manager/player drama, this year is no different. Conte is begging to be fired and the team has been underperforming. Which player scares you the most? It has to be Eden Hazard for me. It’s also worth noting that this Chelsea side have two former Barcelona players, my favorite being Pedro. Brien was sad to see him go, and of course he left because he wasn’t getting playing with Neymar on the team, and then we lost Neymar. Brien thinks that we’ve been ultimately better for losing him, but I’m more broken up about having lost Pedro in the middle of it all. Cesc, I like, but he’s better off on a Premier League side.

Episode 65: Copa del Rey Final, Five Years Running

Show Notes:

We’re almost out of centerbacks: Gerard Pique and Thomas Vermaelen are both injured, Samuel Umtiti had to miss a match with a suspension, so Lucas Digne stepped in to help out, and the league is not as tough on racism as it claims to be (5:17). Barça B saw the end of their best winning streak of the year and FCB Femení bulldozed Santa Teresa to stay 2 points ahead of Atletico Madrid and on top of the Liga Femenina Iberdrola (19:18). The first team are into their fifth consecutive Copa del Rey final (29:23), and Yerry Mina was the shining star of an otherwise uninspired performance against Getafe (1:03:28).

FCB Femení Keep Rollin’

The women dominated the match with possession and build of play. When watching this match, I guess I never realized how powerful Martens is. She has a good height and just looks so strong on the ball, the other team can never take the ball from her. Also she has keen sense to always be at the right spot at the right time when linking up play. The first goal occurred in the 32nd minute, ball was worked to the goal line and cut back where Bárbara Latorre scored the opening goal. In the 64th minute, they had a free kick about 2 meters outside the box where they ran a set play. The ball was passed to the wing, Alexia Putellas got the ball and centered it, it was blocked, and she followed it up with a nice curler which hit the far post and in the goal. The third goa took place in the 82nd minute, another ball was played on the left wing where Martens centered and found Bárbara Latorre streaking through and hammered the cross. The next match for the Femeni is Sunday, Feb 18 at 1300 local time against Athletic Club in the mini Estadi.

Copa del Rey Final, My Place Or Yours?

The same issue that happens every year with the Copa del Rey Final, where and when are they going to play it? This to me is another way that the Spanish FA have missed a huge opportunity to make the final like the Super Bowl. The Spanish FA should choose a date and stadium venue a year prior and rotate between 5-6 stadiums. Those stadiums should be the following: San Memes in Bilbao, Camp Nou in Barcelona, Mestalla in Valencia, Bernabéu in Madrid, Wanda in Madrid, Ramon Sanchez PIzjuan in Sevilla, and Benito Villamarin in Sevilla. If people know in advance where and when, each city can host and highlight a different part of Spain.

Episode 59: The Window Is Open

Show Notes:

A bit of a short episode for the holiday break, we run down the potential incoming transfers Coutinho and Yerry Mina and the players we want, or can expect, to see off-loaded this January, including Rafinha, Deulofeu, Vidal, Arda Turan, and Mascherano (02:25). Our other story charts the rise of Paulinho, both on the pitch and in our estimation of him (28:05).
